GUWAHATI: Three days after a 35-year-old Hindu woman was allegedly gang-raped by 8 Muslims in front of her husband in Assam, police have been granted four days’ remand of the eight accused who were arrested on Saturday.
If required, we may seek more time for questioning,” Nagaon SP said, adding that the survivor’s condition is now better.
A group of 8 Muslim men thrashed her husband and gang-raped the woman in front of him before robbing the couple and fleeing the spot.
The couple was travelling from Kampur to Hojai. Upon reaching Chaparmukh, they couldn’t find any means of transport to reach Hojai. The prime accused, Marjot Ali, took them to Kakotigaon for providing them shelter for the night. At an isolated place near Kopili river, the other seven accused were already waiting.
According to reports, More than 3000 rapes are been registered in Assam alone since 2016
the rise of Muslim population by much larger child birth rate than local population and unstoppable infiltration of Muslims from Bangladesh is the prime reason behind the rise of rapes in the north-east.
